Cecilia Sue Siew Nang Oracle Executive Scandal

Cecilia Sue Siew Nang Oracle Executive Scandal Singapore: Mr Ng Ser Song and Mr Eric Yap, the two men taking over the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) from Wednesday, have stressed that their operations will continue, even as a graft probe continues into the former chiefs of the two agencies.

Mr Ng, the new director of Singapore’s drug enforcement agency, wants to ensure his officers’ morale remain high, and continue combating the drug scourge.

The 48-year-old will also work closely with the Task Force on Drugs led by Minister-of-State of Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, to comprehensively review Singapore’s drug control measures.

Mr Ng takes over the top post at the Central Narcotics Bureau from Mr Ng Boon Gay.

Prior to his CNB appointment, Mr Ng Ser Song was director of the Police Intelligence Department. From 2008 to 2010, he was the no. 2 at the CNB.

‘Our work requires strong support from the public and community, hence I seek your continued support in working together with the CNB to keep Singapore safe from the drug scourge,’ said Mr Ng Ser Song in an e-mail statement.

Mr Ng Boon Gay and former commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force Peter Lim were arrested separately a few weeks ago, after allegations of ‘serious personal misconduct’.

They are out on bail, and are assisting the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau in investigations.

Over at the SCDF, Mr Yap, formerly its senior director (emergency services), takes over Mr Lim’s post.

Mr Yap said the SCDF, which provides fire-fighting and rescue services primarily, will continue to provide prompt emergency services to the public.

‘Enhancing our operational capabilities will remain a key priority for the SCDF. We look forward to working with our partners and the public in advancing our initiatives, programmes and community outreach efforts,’ he added.

Rohingya Muslim Minority Group Four Killed

Rohingya Muslim Minority Group Four Killed: Four people were killed when hundreds of Rohingya Muslims rioted in a Buddhist community in Myanmar on Friday, a government official said, as communal tensions boil over in troubled Rakhine state.

Police were said to have been deployed at more than a dozen villages in Rakhine state, along the Bay of Bengal, after houses were set on fire following a surge in sectarian unrest.

“Police opened fire in Maungdaw in Rakhine state. There are no casualties,” the official said.

Tensions have flared in Rakhine since 10 Muslims were killed by an angry Buddhist mob on Sunday.

The victims' bus was surrounded by a crowd of hundreds of people enraged at the May 28 rape and murder of a Rakhine woman, allegedly by three Muslim men, state media reported Tuesday.

Buddhists make up some 89 percent of the population of Myanmar, with Muslims officially representing 4 percent. The United Nations describes the Rohingya as one of the world's most persecuted minorities.

The violence threatens to overshadow reconciliation efforts since a series of dramatic political reforms last year ended almost half a century of military rule.

An official from the presidential office said police were deployed in Maungdaw on Friday after about 300 people returning from mosques threw stones at a government office, police station and local businesses.

“Now it is under control,” the official said, adding that there was also stone throwing in the Rakhine state capital Sittwe.

Police were also deployed in 14 Rakhine villages as houses were set on fire, he later said in comments posted online.

Abu Tahay, of the National Democratic Party for Development, which represents Rohingya, said there were unconfirmed reports that one or two people were killed by security forces in Maungdaw. AFP was unable to verify that information.

The authorities this week warned against “anarchic acts” after the mob killings and an attack on a police station by an angry crowd in Sittwe.

Religious clashes occur periodically in Myanmar, and Rakhine state — which has a large Muslim minority population including the stateless Rohingya — is a flashpoint for tensions.

In February 2001, the then-ruling junta declared a curfew in the state capital Sittwe after clashes between Muslims and Buddhists.

In Myanmar's main city Yangon, dozens of Muslims protested on Tuesday calling for justice over the recent mob killing.

In a rare public response to civil unrest, the government said Thursday it had established a committee to investigate the sectarian strife and expected to hear its findings by the end of June.

With fears of further violence growing, opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday urged the nation's Buddhist population to show “sympathy” with minorities following the Rakhine killings.

Workers' Party Will Defend Hougang by Election In SMC

Workers' Party Will Defend Hougang by Election In SMC: The Workers' Party says it will work as hard as it can to defend the Hougang Single Member Constituency (SMC).

The Workers Party has called on the Government to abandon the EU Fiscal Treaty referendum on May 31 at its campaign launch calling for the treaty to be rejected.

In its first posting on the party's website, after the Writ of Election was issued for the Hougang by-election, the Workers' Party also called on supporters to come forward to help in many ways possible.

It says it will need supporters to be at the Nomination Centre at Serangoon Junior College on May 16, and also to help in many ways during the campaign.

The Workers' Party did not name its candidate for the by-election on its website.

Meanwhile, three other opposition parties have declared their stand not to contest the Hougang by-election.

In a statement, the Secretary-General of the National Solidarity Party (NSP) Hazel Poa says after careful deliberation, the party has decided that it will not be fielding a candidate in the upcoming Hougang by-election.

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), in a Facebook posting, reiterated that it will not be fielding a candidate for the Hougang by-election. The party had stated previously that it would not contest the by-election.

The Singapore People's Party (SPP) has also confirmed that it will not be contesting the Hougang by-election.

Its Secretary-General Chiam See Tong told Channel NewsAsia that it is best to avoid a three-cornered fight in Hougang.

Alex Tan Zhixiang Decided to Quit Singapore for Good

Alex Tan Zhixiang Decided to Quit Singapore for Good: Former Reform Party candidate Alex Tan Zhixiang has decided to quit Singapore for good I am one of those many young people out there like the commentator on Temasek Times above who have grown disillusioned of Singapore and wanting to emigrate out of here. Like him, I always go to explain at great lengths of how Singapore is really like to curious foreigners over a chat.

My girlfriend is a S-pass holder and she totally agrees with what I’ve said about Singapore’s system and the sorry state of affairs here and how we will suffer like the rest with a government who takes their citizens for granted.

We intend to get married this year but family planning or baby making is a no-no until we settled down in either Sans Franscisco(her cousin’s family is there already) or Auckland(my preference).

I am currently getting my engineering degree and working full time to save up a modest fund by 2014 when I graduated.

My current job as an engineer in a specialized trade is in the long term skill shortage list for immigration, and what attracted me is they are paying 2 to 3 times higher than what I’m getting here in Singapore.

In Singapore, my trade is in high demand, but apparently the Singapore employers wants to have their cake and eat it too. They resorted to hiring cheap foreign engineers and expected the existing engineers to train them, which is impossible without the necessary qualifications in knowledge.

These foreign engineers have a engineering degree but they are at best technician-quality and not engineers who innovate solutions and manage a team. The main reason why productivity is falling especially in my trade is because they hardly think about plausible solutions or simply just talk…perhaps talking is strenuous as their communication skills are poor, probably thinking too as their mindset are unfortunately very much framed up.

There are enough frustrations working with low quality foreigners in our midst and I don’t see why I should put up working with them learning nothing new and always teaching, and if I want to teach, I might as well go back to be a A-Maths tutor like during my National Slavery days where I could easily earn more doing it full time today than what I could get now.

In countries like New Zealand, they have a sound social safety net and their society’s order and economic indicators would never become as polarized and extreme like Singapore’s. Why? Simply because their governance is built on the choice of the people, and this is democracy I’m talking about.

The citizens will moderate the country’s system with opposing forces always resonating among themselves to attract the majority’s support. But in Singapore, all of us have to listen to the PAP because the Opposition is kept very weak.

There are no adaptations of any logical proposals that doesn’t run align with PAP’s political inclinations and the PAP will simply dismiss them as populist or radical(this choice of word by the PAP is a scare tactic…radical…oh my…could be a terrorist’s idea…like the wage shock therapy from Dr Lim Chong Yah).

With PAP grassroot leaders and the mainstream media always currying favors by presenting skewed ground sentiments to their MPs and Ministers, Singaporeans ended up voiceless and policies become disconnected with reality. Look no further than at Lee Hsien Loong’s facebook. That is the breeding ground of radical PAP extremists.

There are thousands of cult-like responses supporting the PAP and they would attack any anti-PAP sentiments or have the moderator deleting them like this[Link]. I sometimes wonder if I served National Slavery to protect these disgusting people, and there is 60% like them in Singapore.

My decision to leave Singapore is more motivated by the push factors that are largely disappointments of Singapore’s system than the pull factors of retirement and family-friendly environments in New Zealand and US. Singapore is my home, I love Singapore especially when I grew up during the golden years that is the 1990s. I would like my children to grow up in the 1990s Singapore the way I did but that is no longer possible here.

On my conscience level, at least I have decided to leave Singapore with a fight(that is to partake in the Opposition). I fought, I lost and now I’m gone because my family come first. People around me are telling me to stick for 2016 Elections and I told them I am not going to waste my youth here and I am telling my friends to leave as well, for my very last struggle with the PAP is to deny them the very young people they need to sustain their political dominance.

MP Seng Han Thong apologises to SMRT staff

MP Seng Han Thong apologises to SMRT staff: Seng Han Thong has since apologized for his insensitivity which is really uncalled for as he is a politician and cannot forget how such remarks could be taken differently. It is going to do him no good. Mr Seng issued a statement of apology through his Facebook page. He said:
"In my interview with blogtv.sg, I made a regrettable mistake in my language, which may be misconstrued as me saying that people speak bad English because of their ethnicity. I sincerely apologise to all Singaporeans, who have been offended by this error.

"Singaporeans of all ethnicities and backgrounds speak varying standards of English. My own Chinese-educated background gives me a special empathy for the non-English-speaking sections of our society. We should all be tolerant of people of different standards of linguistic ability.

"The point I was trying to make is that this should not prevent people from trying to communicate, especially in times of emergency.

"The remark was made in the context of a larger discussion about how we could better and faster improve the current problems we're facing with our mass rapid transport system. Let us once again focus our minds and our public discussion on this issue."

your facebook profile could get you the sack: How your Facebook profile could get you the sack.. After an Apple employee was fired for ranting about his iPhone on Facebook, Robert Powell looks at the information you should never put online

Making the world more open and connected” is the mantra trumpeted by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as the key aim behind his social networking giant.

And isn’t that a nice, fluffy idea?

Well, it is, so long as you know exactly who you are being open and connected with. And as one lowly ex-employee recently found: most of the time, you don’t.

cruel beating and stomping of female protester by egyptian military police

cruel beating and stomping of female protester by egyptian military police: The video below shows Egyptian military police cruelly beating a female protester kicking her and stomping on her chest.

The blog-o-sphere is boiling at the cruel beating of a female protester by Egyptian military police, who continued battling protesters in Tahrir Square on Sunday. The clashes, into their third day now, have left 10 people dead and hundreds injured. The video uploaded on YouTube Sunday reveals the extreme cruelty of the country's law enforcers during the crackdown.

The army soldiers in full riot gear have been savagely beating a seemingly unconscious female protester with big sticks, kicking her and stomping on her chest. Security forces lashed out ruthlessly on armless civilians and burned down tents that had been put up by activists outside the parliament building to camp in protest against the military rule. The internet community therefore questions the methods of the military regime who took over power after the ousting of the ex-President Hosni Mubarak in February.

of Tin Pei Ling popular Singaporean person

Tin Pei Ling was the most popular Singaporean person in online searches on Google Singapore this year.
The search giant released its list of top search items for the past year yesterday.

Ms Tin, 27, is the People's Action Party's (PAP) youngest backbencher and was one of the most talked-about and scrutinised candidates in the May General Election (GE), especially online.

She topped the "Fastest Rising People" list, meaning she was the most searched name by Singaporeans this year.

Two other local politicians also made the Fastest Rising People Top 10 list: National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate Nicole Seah and former foreign minister George Yeo, who were rated third and sixth respectively.

Political commentator Eugene Tan, 41,said these results were not surprising, because local politics was very much in the news this past year.

Ms Tin and Ms Seah also attracted the most attention because "many Singaporeans see them as compelling contrasts", said the assistant law professor at Singapore Management University. Personality politics..

saw phaik hwa smrt ceo

saw phaik hwa smrt ceo: MRT commuters riled by SMRT CEO Saw Phaik Hwa's latest comments, SMRT chief executive Saw Phaik Hwa's latest words have once again raised the ire of netizens and commuters.

In a Straits Times report yesterday, the SMRT chief commented that the MRT system is "still reliable compared with other systems".

She said, "I don't see anything significant" in the number of disruptions and delays.
She also attributed the train breakdowns to higher service frequency, new trains that "need to break in", and more rainy days in Singapore. She cites the newly installed platform screen doors at surface stations, which need to synchronise with train doors, as another factor in train disruptions.

Saw Phaik Hwa seems to have missed entirely the concerns which commuters may have about crowded trains and stations.  She seems to be of the opinion that the issue is simply about ferrying commuters from Point A to Point B in the shortest possible time. She seems to think that the solution is a rather simple one: that commuters should “push” themselves in if trains are crowded, as she admitted doing so herself.
