WikiLeaks Singapore: WIKILEAKS Release 505 Singapore US Embassy Cables Leaked: Singapore's strict bank secrecy laws and status as a regional financial hub make it an "Attractive Destination" for terrorist groups to launder money, a U.S. Diplomatic Cable Published by WikiLeaks said.

"Singapore's position as a major financial and investment center, combined with bank secrecy laws and lack of routine currency reporting requirements make it an attractive destination for terrorist organizations," the cable said.

The cable, published on WikiLeaks website and seen on Friday, was signed by then U.S. Ambassador Frank Lavin.

But there were also "mitigating" factors that deter terrorist groups from "significant fund-raising or" bank in Singapore, said the cable with reference to the tough laws against money laundering and "terrorist" financing.
Wikileaks Leaked Summary: Singapore's senior leadership discussed the challenges of combating Islamic terrorism, the need for moderate Muslims to speak out, and the importance of success in Iraq in meetings with visiting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).
