Yemen president wounded in shelling of palace: Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh was shot and injured after an attack on the presidential palace, Suhail, a TV station run by the country’s opposition, reported.
The opposition-run channel also reported the President’s death, but the government official announced that he is alive and will soon make a nationwide address.
“The president is well and he will address the people in one hour, there are some slight injuries among officials,” Abdu al-Janadi, deputy information minister, told Reuters.
The presidential palace was hit by shells earlier on Friday during fighting between Saleh’s forces and a powerful tribal federation. This marked another escalation in the uprising to end Saleh’s three-decade long rule of the impoverished state which started in January.
