Cat Cora

Cat Cora, Renowned chef and Food Network star Cat Cora offers these safety tips to ensure that your family stays not only well fed, but healthy, too, this summer.

"Eating meals at home is a wonderful way to save money and connect with family. But many food staples, such as raw meat and vegetables, can harbor food-borne bacteria, such as Salmonella, E. coli and Staph."

To avoid this, follow Cora's simple kitchen guidelines:
Use a glass cutting board when slicing raw meats and vegetables. The surfaces of plastic and wood cutting boards can be cut by knives during food preparation, and bacteria can hide in these porous areas.Clean as you go, washing knives, cutting boards, dishes and prep tools after each use with an antibacterial dish liquid.

Cleaning while you cook will help reduce the risk of transferring bacteria to other surfaces or ingredients. Make sure to clean your sink, including the faucet, after rinsing fresh vegetables or washing dishes and prep tools.
