Indy 500 spotlights Dario Franchitti, Danica Patrick: Defending Indianapolis 500 champion Dario Franchitti ran out of gas during his qualifying run on Pole Day last Saturday and was more than a bit angry.
Danica Patrick has been dodging rumors for more than a week that she’s leaving the IZOD IndyCar series and her team, Andretti Autosport, for NASCAR once her contract expires this year.
Swiss driver Simona De Silvestro earned the 24th and final qualifying spot on Pole Day despite driving with two heavily bandaged hands. De Silvestro suffered second-degree burns on her hands and minor burns on part of her face after being involved in a fiery crash during a practice run May 19.
“Being in a fire is not fun,” she said after qualifying.
