Johngarthia Cocoensis

Johngarthia Cocoensis ,Johngarthia Cocoensis Descovered: A new species of large land crab was discovered on the island of Cocos in Costa Rica, a local newspaper reported Monday. Researchers from the University of Costa Rica and the United States discovered the new species, named “Johngarthia Cocoensis”, on the island of the Pacific Ocean. The distinctive feature of j. cocoensis, according to the researchers, is its large size-a man can measure 40 cm (15.7 inches) with their front legs extended (smaller than women measured).Crabs live in holes in the ground and eat mainly grass and seeds.
Robert Perger and Rita Vargas at the University of Costa Rica and Adam wall of the Museum of Natural history of Los Angeles County is the discovery of new species attributed. Perger told the local newspaper cocensis j. remembers the crab malpilensis j., who lives in the nearby islands.
“The similarity with other species in the Western Pacific indicates that the larvae (performed in the sea) to Cocos Island may have crossed ocean currents,” and then adapted to the Habitat to a new species, said.
